Pastor Fatoyinbo has just stepped down as COZA pastor amidst allegations that he raped Busola Dakolo who is the wife of singer, Timi Dakolo.
For the past few days, the media has been filled with reports that the senior pastor of COZA church sexual assaulted Busola Dakolo when she was just 16 years of age.
Busola Dakola days back alleged that COZA pastor, Biodun Fatoyinbo raped her years back, and Etomi who has called for the pastor to step down has also narrated her own experience.
On Sunday the 30th of June 2019, Nigerians took to the church in Abuja and Lagos to protest, asking for him to step down from his role in the church.
Now the pastor has now revealed in a social media post that he has now stepped down from his role as pastor of the church.
He also stated in the post that he still has confidence in the Lord and hopes his innocence would be proven.
The Instagram post read:
“The past few days have been very sobering for me. I have taken time to pray and seek spiritual counsel from Christian leaders around the world who feel very concerned about the ongoing reports in the media. I have solicited their guidance on actions I should take that are honouring to our Lord Jesus Christ and the work He has called me to do.
Drawing from their counsel and that of the leadership of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly and owing to my love for God’s work and the sacred honour of my calling, I have decided to take a leave of absence from the pulpit of the church.
Although it would break my heart to tatters to stay a day without doing ministry I believe it is the right thing to do at this time. It is in the interest of the flock of Christ that issues concerning me do not become a distraction to their worship of their Lord.
This step enables me to submit to the concerns of my spiritual mentors as they consider all the issues that have been raised against me.
My confidence in the Lord remains unwavering. Though, I do not understand all that is happening, I trust the Lord to lead and guide me one step at a time. Kindly pray for me and the congregation of COZA as we seek the face of the Lord during these turbulent times.
Thank you and God bless you.”
Despite the large number of celebrities and important personalities coming in defense of Bukola Dakolo, the COZA pastor has since denied raping her.
He wrote in a statement some days back:
I am aware that there has been a recent media publication on YouTube by YNaija operated and owned by RED Media Group which shows an interview by Chude Jideonwo with Busola Dakolo.
Prior to now, we had adhered to our policy of ignoring rumours from social media accounts as we knew that several statements had been made to extort the church of money and myself through blackmail, harassment and intimidation.
We have refused time and again to accede to their request, which has infuriated them overtime, because of this they have gotten more aggressive.
Unlike previous statements where innuendos were used and there was no direct mention of myself or the Church, the recent video released on YouTube has now made direct Criminal allegations against me in the interview granted by Busola Dakolo which are fallacious, non-existent and which are all denied in every measure. As an individual and as a Church we love and support people, and we will never condone any form of abuse, rape, harassment, or intimidation of anybody. I have never in my life raped anybody even as an unbeliever and I am absolutely innocent of this.
Busola Dakolo, who has made this false allegation and her family attended the church during the early start of the church in Ilorin in 1999. I never had any private interactions with her beyond my pastoral duties. Looking at her status and that of her husband, I am dumbfounded why she would say such a thing. As expected under the ethics of Journalism, it would have been expected that I should have been confronted with these false allegations prior to any publication, instead of resorting to social media with the intent to ruin my reputation and bring down the church.
We will also not stand for false criminal allegations made against me or the church. The leadership of the Church and I have briefed our lawyers to commence Criminal and Civil actions against all individuals making such false allegations whether directly or by proxies. We will as a church pursue every measure within the ambits of the law to bring the culprits to justice. We have heard, and we will not be surprised to see more of such allegations by people who have been paid to continue in this line of blackmail, harassment and extortion including those who may have been dismissed from their duties in the church on disciplinary grounds.
To all our members and those supporting God’s work, I want to assure you that we would fight this and the Lord will vindicate us. This has always been intended to attack the church, this is the intent of the adversary, the intent is to destroy the church, so please stay focused and prayerful. God Bless you. I celebrate you.
