The suspected cult members who were arrested in relation to Friday’s attack in OAU have been released by the police.
The attackers, who were said to be members of the Alora confraternity, attacked the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) campus on Friday night, during a show hosting Zlatan Ibile.
The Chief Security Officer of the school, Babatunde Oyatokun, has earlier noted that the suspected cultists have been handed to the police at Moore Area Command.
According to a new report by Premium Times, the suspected cultists were freed by the police on Monday morning.
In an audio evidence obtained by Premium Times, the police claimed that they found only charms on the suspects, hence could not prosecute the case.
According to a source, the suspects were released around 9:00 am on Monday.
The situation is still tense as a particular threat message from a suspected cult group leader is being shared on various online platforms associated with the OAU community.
The WhatsApp broadcast obtained contains an announcement of a possible ‘mass invasion’ of the hostels by the cult group on June 1.
“Blood will flow. We will go from every hostel to every hostel. We will wash your school with the sins of your people,” the message said.
We hope security agencies get it right this time, and are proactive so as to avoid any loss of live or property.
