Ekiti 2018: Delegates shock Fayemi at Akure parley
All is seems not well with the governorship ambition of the former governor of Ekiti state and minister of solid minerals Dr. Kayode Fayemi in his bid to get the sympathy of the APC delegates during the forthcoming APC primary election.
It was reliably gathered that, Dr. Fayemi had invited five delegates per ward in all the 177 wards in Ekiti state to assemble in Akure, Ondo state capital with an intention that, Gov. Rotimi Akeredolu of the state will assist him at convincing a reasonable numbers of them to do his bidding at the primary election slated for may 5, 2018.
At the meeting where the Aspirant expected about 1000 delegates, Fayemi got a rude shock when less than 200 participants with more than 50 of the attendees as non delegates shown up.
The meeting which was later addressed by Ondo state APC chairman Mr. Ade Adetimehin was a failure of highest magnitude as some of the delegates demanded why Dr. Fayemi must abandoned all APC leaders in Ekiti state to seek refuge in Ondo state.
While addressing the delegates, APC chairman in Ondo state Mr. Ade Adetimehin had begged them onbehalf of Ekiti Aspirant saying, they are ready to buy them with money if the delegates will queue behind Fayemi at the primary election.
“According to him, power belongs to the delegates now, since Gov. Akeredolu and few other friends of Fayemi who are very close to president Buhari were unable to convince Mr. president to impose Fayemi on Ekiti APC”.
Initially what we thought we’ll be able to achieve was to beg and convince Mr. President to impose Dr. Fayemi but all efforts were proved abortive, hence the need to run to the delegates as the last option left.
You will all agree with me, my Dear Ekiti people that, if Mr. President had agreed to impose our man Fayemi by now, the Aspirant wouldn’t have taken a leave from his ministerial duty but rather resigned outrightly. But we believe in Ekiti delegates that you will support him to win the primary election.
We are one and we cannot continue to deceive ourself, that President Buhari had picked Fayemi, what we want is your support and votes.
Following the poor attendance at the meeting, the Organisers of the parly later gave each of the attendees who had travelled from different parts of Ekiti state to Akure a transport fare of #4,500 even without any entertainment as against the original 20, 000 naira already earmaked for each of them.
2, 618 delegates both authomatic and party executive members are to vote to pick the APC candidate in may 5, 2018 primary election in Ekiti state.
