SEVENTEEN lucky students from financially challenged homes in the Niger-Delta have benefited from the Morgan Smart Development Foundation (MSDF) scholarship scheme to cover their secondary education.
The ceremony which was chaired by Mrs. Ethel Ayemotse Atuegbu, Proprietor of El Marantha Int’l School, Port Harcourt, was attended by principals of the schools from where the 17 students were selected, parents of the awardees and friends of MSDF, held on Friday, March 17, 2017 at the Morgan Smart Resource Centre in Warri, Delta State.
In her welcome address, President/CEO of MSDF, Dr. Evelyn Atsiangbe-Urhobo, expressed her sincere gratitude to all those who have continued to support the programme with donations to the scholarship fund.
She congratulated the 17 for succeeding out of the 116 who took the initial aptitude test, the interview and home visitation to qualify. She admonished them to take their studies seriously, noting that education is the key to life as it opens all the doors to opportunities needed to achieve their visions and dreams in life.
Over the last seven years, the number of awardees have grown.
These 17 awardees have brought the number of recipients so far to121 with 24 of them currently in the university, she said, appealing to friends and well wishers to support the worthy cause.
Special guest of honour, Delta State Commissioner of Education, Hon. Chinedu Ebie, represented by the chief inspector of education, Warri Zonal office, Mrs V. Ojumah, congratulated the students and counselled them to take their studies seriously.
Parents of the awardees could not contain their joy. They expressed their sincere gratitude to MSDF for lifting the burden of meeting the educational needs of the children, especially in these difficult times.
The new awardees received their letters of award, a pair of school sandals each, a school bag, a set of school uniforms, all their prescribed school books including an Oxford Dictionary and a Bible.
The joy of the children knew no bounds as they expressed their happiness at being awardees and promised to take their studies seriously to make their parents and MSDF proud of them.
The CEO said MSDF shall continue to pray for all those who have been consistent in their support for the scholarship scheme.
